For your viewing pleasure today we have the absolutely wonderful Clare and James joining us on the blog, with their wedding at Larmer Tree Gardens last summer. If you don’t know Larmer Tree then you’re missing out on something very special indeed. It’s a unique place – an old victorian pleasure garden nestled in the Cranbourne Chase, an area of ‘outstanding natural beauty’ in Wiltshire. This was my first time photographing a wedding at Larmer Tree so I was particularly excited that the weather forecast was for sun – if you’re getting married in a garden, you really do want it to be a nice day after all. I had a great start at Clare’s parents house in the morning, which was just fizzing with excitement – and then arriving at Larmer Tree I was met by peacocks and some very presentable wedding guests too. I loved seeing Clare walk across the lawn towards the assembled guests and her husband to be – it’s such an amazing setting, I think there was an audible gasp from the crowd when they saw her coming. The ceremony went smoothly – no mean feat when you have a rather young ring bearer. And then the party started. Giant jenga, space hoppers and badminton for the kids (and the big kids) and drinks and nibbles for everyone else.
Coombe Lodge wedding in UK
I’ve got a colour fest for you all today!! Cathy and Andy’s amazing wedding at Coombe Lodge was an absolute joy to photograph. Not just because there was so much colour and amazing decor everywhere, but also because I’ve known them for years and it felt extra special to be a part of their wedding day. Coombe Lodge is a venue I love and know really well, and it’s always nice to be back there shooting. It’s an amazing looking venue but also the team there are super lovely. So I was pretty excited before I even arrived – but as soon as I walked in and saw some of the amazing, vibrant decorations I knew it was going to be a day to remember.
library engagement shoot in bristol
So what do you do when you love literature, are having a book themed wedding and you’re planning your engagement shoot? You decide to do it in the library, of course. So that’s what we did. Ella and Michael and I spent some time in a rather lovely library in Bristol creating some engagement images and generally laughing (very quietly) at my whispered instructions and attempts to make my cameras as quiet as possible! We had fun and managed not to get ssshhhed by anyone so i think we did okay. We then wandered down to the waterfront to catch some of the evening sun! Hope you enjoy this little taster…

Selfies at Weddings
Apparently 300 million pictures are uploaded to Facebook every day. 300 million. Every day. That means that every two minutes we take more photographs than the whole of humanity did in the 1800s. Who knows quite where this is going to lead, but it’s definitely an interesting time for anyone who is involved in telling visual stories. While I’ve been going through this year’s weddings selecting images for my best of 2014 post, I’ve noticed that one of the things that has been really notable this year is the ‘selfie’ phenomenon. Whether it’s brides and grooms doing it just after they’ve said their vows (See Chris and Nina from their wedding at The Tunnels Ilfracombe below) or just guests having fun during the reception, there’s definitely been a noticeable increase in how many times I’ve seen (and captured) it. And I love it. It’s fun – it can provide a great photo opportunity in itself but I think it also shows that people are getting more and more interested in the visual image and more aware of the importance of capturing memories. It also makes documentary wedding photography even stronger – the importance of capturing people as they really are, whatever they’re doing is greater now than ever. So let’s celebrate the selfie :
